Chapter 6

1. What type of issues would you worry about in terms of students producing content of sharing with the world via the web.

The issues that I would worry about my child or students being on the web or Internet are giving their personal information to a stranger. Because children can easily become a victim of abuse at any time. Another worry I have is children is being hurt through there peers or classmates, for example name calling.

2. Identify three practices or rules that you believe would be good practice in protecting students on the web. Elaborate on why you have chosen each?  

I think three good practices is have a good virus protection, have information sessions and always talk to parents and students how to protect themselves. A virus protection can help against hackers. The information sessions can help with getting the right information and protection out there for both groups.

Chapter 4..........Reading and questions assignment!!

1. Novel Study with author participation?
I think this would be something that the author is going to blog about his own personal feelings and thoughts. Maybe this is his way of getting others opinions and ways to improve his work.

2. Students at two first nation schools in New Brunswick and British Columbia recording and sharing native stories and music?
This would be a Wiki because it will give information about where and how they learned the stories and music.

3.Daily science journal?
This is a blog because it keeps track of daily thoughts and events that went on.

4. Student creative writing with peer review?
Students writing and peers giving there review is a wiki cause the information can be changed.

Coffee at Tim's

The other day I went for a coffee with a few friends of mine. I was asking them about technology and their kids. One parent was talking away how someone asked him why he didn't agree with his 13 year old daughter on the net all the time. His answered that there is some many more things that she can be doing besides talking to friends and family on line. He also said that talking to friends the old fashion way by picking up the phone. He mentioned that there was a fear of predators and having some pictures on facebook. I really enjoyed talking to them about there views about the internet and technology. I asked him where do they see technology going and they answered its moving so fast I wouldn't know what to say or even think where its going!!

Happy Birthday Mom!!

Today is my mom's birthday and I'm so happy to have her in my life. She has to be my number one supporter for being a single working parent and a student. She was always there for me in the times I needed her the most. She was the one that really pushed me to go back to school. So I thank her for always encouraging me to do positive things for myself and my daughter. I hope that some day I can repay her for all the times she help me with raising Daisy.

My mom is a language teacher at the Metepenagiag Elementary School and she struggles to keep the Mic Mac Language in the school system. I hope that some day our language can be stronge again in this community.

Spring Fever!!

I think I have spring fever cause I'm really tired of this snow!!! I wish the nice weather would hurry up and get here. I miss going to on my evening walks and walking in the outdoors even though I work out at a gym I love the spring and summer time.

The days seems alot longer now and I hope old man winter goes to sleep for a while!!

Facebook and MSN

For the past couple of weeks I was without a computer because the power source burnt out in my computer. I was really fustered because I couldnt keep in contact with friends and family I really realized how much I depend on the computer for entertainment and for my everyday routine.

I was fustered because I had to go to family members to use there computers to check my email and even pay my bills on line. I was really un comfortable asking someone else to use there computer because I'm a really independed person and having to do these sort of things on their time.

Monday's Class

Once again we had problems with our polygram at school. But we managed to get connected and move along with the rest of the class. This is getting hard to accept some times because I guess I'm one of those people who want things and technology to work when I want them to work.

After class my group and I completed our lesson plan and I really enjoy working with these ladies. We really know how to brain storm and work together. I'm glad that I finally get to work on something that was helping me to think like a teacher by using technology.

Smartboard

Wednesday off-line class was really good because we got a lesson on how to use the smartboard and all its fancy tricks. Our group is very lucky to have someone voluteer there time to come and show us a few things that can help us with our course. That class was one of many class that I will remember cause the group really worked hard on our projects or assignments. I'm really enjoying the way technology is helping us through this course. Now I see the importance of a smartboard because it helps teachers and students to interact with a lesson. I would really like to spend more time with the smartboard but will enjoy that time we have with it.

Technology and this course!!

Monday's class was very distracting because we were'nt connected to the rest of the class. I know I'm a visual learner and like to follow along with the presentation. I love technology because if it wasnt for this course and the video conferencing I wouldn't have been able to go back to school and stay in my community with my friends and family.....but I do miss the teacher to student interaction. So I guess there is going to be some bumps in the road as I travel along in this journey of Education.

Let it snow...Let it Snow..

The last couple weekends we spent alot of time indoors because of the weather. Thanks to technology we keept our selves connected with friends and family through msn and facebook and the kids managed to entertain themselves with the lastest video games such as guitar hero. More video games are introducing kids to be active, I think this is great because there are some kids out there that dont get enough excersise. As a parent I have some concern about how much time my daughter spends chatting on line and playing games. I really believe some kids dont play outside enough. Its really important to limit kids time on computers, video games and even talking on the telephone!!! There are so many negative and positive sides to modern technology!!!

Webkinz is the new fad, when Daisy isnt chatting on with friends and family. she is playing with her virtual pets. I'm happy that Daisy found webkinz and msn because it help her with spell and reading. I do still have a fear of someone hurting my child on line but I always do my best to protect her.

WOW....Hello students. My name is Andrea and I'm a single mother of a beautiful daughter Daisy. I also work full time as a secretary for the Red Bank Health for the past three years. I always knew that I wanted to continue my studies but never thought it would be in education. I took the opportunity when its was offered. In my spare time I check out facebook and chat on msn with friends and if you cant catch me on line, I'm working out at the gym. I thought I was comfortable with computers but really I'm not...I guess learning new skills can be a little exciting and scary for some. But I do enjoy technology most of time...peace!!
